Parkside has had a large presence as Vets in Dundee for over 125 years. We are one of the oldest private Vets in Scotland. Working from an ex-nunnery in Long Wynd, Dundee, the veterinary practice had to make way for the first new Overgate shopping centre in Dundee and move to Constitution Road in 1960. Parkside Vets in Dundee were formerly Mr Pedie, then Mr Gibson, followed by Mr Thomson, Mr Davidson and, with the retiral of Graham Haig, we now have the present directors you can see here on the web site. You can read our e-Book of the first 125 years of Parkside history, written in 2013, if you CLICK HERE.

Parkside Vet Group has grown from 3 Vets in 1980 to 18 Vets now, with fourteen working exclusively with Pet Medicine and Surgery - a long way since the one-man "horse vet's" work-load 100 years ago, which would have been 90% working shire horses, working in 2 and 3-storey city stables in Dundee, near to the docks!

One of our partners has an orthopaedic specialisation (SA is an Advanced Practitioner in small-animal Orthopaedics) and we accept referrals in this field from other practices and this saves the long journey to one of the Universities for this specialised work. Stuart is also one of a handful of Vets in Scotland qualified to carry out TPLO ops using the Slocum method, for anterior cruciate ruptures - (a serious knee ligament injury, often seen in footballers as well as dogs and cats). He is also equipped to do video-arthroscopy, where we can look into a joint, make repairs, all with minimal invasion. Other partners have special interests in soft tissue surgery, radiology, endoscopy, equine medicine, dental work and in this way we can offer you a comprehensive service within our group. An additional speciality is advanced diagnosis and treatment with the help of our state-of-the-art ultrasound scanners both at Dundee and Barnhill surgeries, which allows us to look at the chest and abdomen, and see minute detail, essential for problems in these areas. We can also offer advanced endoscopy examinations in all species using our high definition video endoscope, allowing us to view the airways of dogs, cats and horses, as well as pets' stomachs and bowel. Good for biopsies without the usual big operation, or retrieving odds and sods from stomachs! Digital Xrays at Barnhill and Dundee surgeries provides us with the highest resolution to help diagnosis.

We work from three surgeries - one in Broughty Ferry, one in Barnhill close to Monifieth, (rebuilt in 2014 on two stories with all mod-cons) as well as the  Dundee site, where we also have a modern purpose-built surgery at 5 Kings Cross road. Free parking on-site makes all the difference.

Kings Cross Road surgery open-days see over 300 people coming to see behind the scenes, with stalls from drug companies, Guide Dogs, Mountains Animal sanctuary and even horse-shoe making in the new equine facility. Clients are welcome to book a surgery tour on a Thursday, late afternoon, just to see for yourself.

Parkside Equine has an excellent reputation for all Equine work, undertaking advanced equine dental work, AI, Ultrasound Scanning, Radiology etc. We have digital Xray equipment giving us extra high definition as well as pictures viewable instantly. We travel to farm calls through Angus, Fife and East Perthshire. Our Equne Treatment centre at Kings Cross Road allows us to carry out more specialised work with your horses as outpatients. We are a registered official measuring centre for horses. We also carry out inspections for Local Authorities.

We are accredited in the RCVS Practice Standards Scheme. We are a Tier 2 practice at Dundee and Barnhill for pets and we are Tier 2 for Equine and Farm work also. This involves independent inspection of all our premises and ensures the highest standards for you and your animals.
